When You Get Tired of Serving Others
Written by Pastor JB.
Romans 15: 13
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Do you ever get tired of serving others? Remember this: the goal of our lives is to give God praise. One important way we give God praise is when we sacrifice our rights, preferences and comforts so that other people who come from a different background than us can know the indisputable love of God through us and worship alongside us in unity. That's what Paul in Romans 15 was encouraging the Jews and the Gentiles to do for one another: to "accept one another, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God" (verse 7).
Scripture is filled with examples of people who sacrificed their own rights, preferences and conveniences so that someone else could be blessed. Abraham did that for Lot. Jonathan did that for David. Ruth did that for Naomi. Jesus, the greatest example of all, did that for us. As a result of their willing and selfless sacrifices, not only were others blessed, but they themselves were blessed even more by God. God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.
So whenever you find yourself getting tired of serving and loving others, remember the selfless sacrifices of Jesus Christ and other men and women in the Bible. Remember how God blessed them in the end. May their example give you endurance and encouragement to keep on doing your best to serve and love the people around you. If you keep on going and don't give up, God will use you to bless others and will bless you even more in the end.
What lessons can we learn from Eve
Written by Richard Reid
I was just reading a book about women in the Bible. It is called "Bad Girls of the Bible" by Liz Curtis Higgs. Here are just a couple of her thoughts about Eve:
What lessons can we learn from Eve?
1) Don't get into a debate with Satan
- We can't stop Satan from whispering in our ears, but we can refuse to listen, and we can definitely refuse to respond.
- "Resist the devil and he will flee from you." (James 4:7)
2) Know God's word so you won't be fooled
- Studying verses from the Bible gives us the strength to say "No" because we "know" better.
- "I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you." (Psalm 119:11)
Just thought I would pass along these thoughts to you because as a Christian these two points made a lot of sense to me. Maybe they will make sense to you also.
